Before our little bundle of joy, Toñito, came into our world, we were already sharing our lives with the one and only Cookie – our adorable dog. Not everyone knows this, but Lovsy and I had a little “waiting phase” before parenthood knocked on our doors. Just the two of us under one roof, juggling our career and “Lovsy” time, we entertained the idea of why not throw some more life into the mix. And that’s how we ended up deciding to bring some extra paws and giggles into our cozy home!
The whole “how to raise a baby with a dog” dilemma is a real head-scratcher. Allergies, those possible pesky ticks, and a bunch of other health what-ifs for Cookie – they all danced around in our heads. But here’s the silver lining: we rolled up our sleeves and went all out to keep Cookie as clean and neat as possible. Our home became a cleanliness mission, with top-tier sanitation checks reigning supreme.
In our little household, we’ve got this unspoken rule – keep our Little Mudir, at a safe distance from Cookie. Translation: no paw-dipping or tongue-wagging action on Toñito’s toes, limbs, or the precious face area. But, as our Little Mudir started getting all curious about life, he’s been on a mission to conquer everything – including Cookie’s territory. Sneaky touches of fur and tail have become his goal. And guess what follows this secret mission? Operation Clean-up: wet wipes, a sprinkle of alcohol, or a quick hand wash, just to keep things squeaky clean.
As Toñito’s first year on the planet is fast approaching, we thought, why not let him be exposed a little and make them become buddies? Guess what? Cookie took on the role of the cutest “big sister” like a champ. She’s got these invisible lines she won’t cross, almost like she’s a boundary Jedi – gracefully sidestepping Tonito’s curious attempts. Even when it’s just the two of them, Cookie’s the queen of maintaining her personal bubble. Social distancing pro right there, no doubt about it!
This morning, I managed to snag a video of them having a blast, sprawled out on the living room’s cushy bed, sporting their adorable diapers. It’s moments like these that make us wonder if we’re not just nurturing one kiddo, but a dynamic duo!
I’m fully embracing the notion that Toñito and Cookie are destined to be the ultimate pals. Here’s to Toñito relishing his early years with Cookie by his side – not just a big sis, but a lifelong sidekick as he embarks on the journey of growing up.
