Eye of a Needle

As I journey through my early forties and actively plan for retirement, today’s Gospel strikes a deeply personal chord. Over the years, my wife and I have worked hard and, by God’s grace, have been able to invest in properties—fruits of our diligence and responsible stewardship. These investments symbolize our desire to provide stability and security for our future.

Yet, Jesus’ words today remind me of a vital truth: “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” It is not the possession of wealth that is inherently wrong, but the danger lies in becoming too attached to it—placing our identity, security, or sense of success solely in material gains.

This Gospel challenges me to reflect: Am I building my life on temporary securities or on eternal values? While I will continue to plan wisely and work responsibly, I pray for the grace to keep my heart free from excessive attachment to what the world offers. I want to hold loosely to my investments, recognizing that true richness lies not in property or financial assets, but in the life we build with God—centered on faith, love, and eternal purpose.

May my focus always remain on the Kingdom of God, trusting that in seeking Him first, everything else will fall into its rightful place.

Let us Pray

Lord,
Thank You for blessing me with the fruits of my labor. Help me to be a wise steward, not only of my resources but also of my heart. Teach me not to cling too tightly to the material wealth I’ve built, but to always seek the eternal riches of Your Kingdom. May I live with open hands and a faithful heart, trusting that with You, all things are possible.
Amen.
