Iftar 2024

Ramadan Kareem to all our dear readers observing this holy month!

Having spent over a decade in the Middle East, I’ve grown accustomed to the beautiful customs and practices of Ramadan. From the observance of fasting by our Muslim friends to the shortened work hours, each aspect holds a special place in our hearts. But perhaps what truly fills us with anticipation is the cherished meal of breaking the fast, known as Iftar.

Yesterday, my family and I gathered for a special Iftar at the Santa Monica Breakfast Club, nestled within the luxurious Grand Hyatt Hotel. Joining us was Ate Angie, and for the first time, our little Antonio, who now joyfully joins in our dining adventures from his high chair, his playful spirit lighting up the room.

Santa Monica Breakfast Club’s Iftar offering proved to be an exceptional experience, surpassing our expectations. While we’re regulars here for breakfast or brunch on ordinary days, this was our first time into their Iftar feast. We arrived half an hour past our reservation time of 6 PM. Ate Angie, delayed by her work, managed to join us just past 7 PM, ensuring she didn’t miss out on the delightful spread before Iftar closed at 8 PM.

The array of culinary delights was truly impressive, spanning Arabic and Indian specialties, mixed grills, vibrant salads, enticing sushi and rolls, savory pizzas and pastries, and comforting pasta. And let’s not forget the decadent selection of desserts that awaited us at the end of our savory journey.

Starting with crisp salads, creamy hummus, and a soothing mushroom soup, I gradually indulged in sushi rolls and delectable fish dishes. The aroma of grilled beef and shawarma beckoned, and I couldn’t resist sampling a few slices. Just when I thought I couldn’t possibly eat another bite, the allure of freshly prepared pasta proved irresistible. And to cap off this culinary odyssey, a slice of heavenly knafeh and cake brought a sweet conclusion to our feast.

In the company of loved ones, amidst laughter and shared moments, our Iftar experience at Santa Monica Breakfast Club was truly unforgettable. As we continue to cherish these moments of togetherness and gratitude, may the spirit of Ramadan continue to inspire and uplift us all. Wishing you a blessed and fulfilling Ramadan!
