Letting Go to Follow Christ

In today’s reading from Matthew 19:16-22, we encounter the rich young man who asks Jesus what he must do to gain eternal life. Though he has kept the commandments, Jesus invites him to go deeper — to let go of his possessions and follow Him. This moment reveals something profound: eternal life isn’t just about checking moral boxes, but about surrender and relationship. The young man walks away sad, not because he was bad, but because he was attached — to wealth, security, and self. We’re challenged to ask ourselves: What are we holding onto that’s keeping us from fully following Jesus? Sometimes it’s not about doing more, but about letting go. Today, may we reflect on what we cling to — and have the courage to loosen our grip.

Let us Pray

Lord Jesus,
You call us to follow You with open hands and open hearts.
Help us to let go of anything that keeps us from giving ourselves fully to You.
Give us the courage to trust in Your love more than our comfort,
and to choose You above all else.
Teach us that true riches are found not in what we own,
but in walking closely with You each day.
Amen.
